Located on the Pacific Ocean, Bodega Bay is a perfect location to unwind and enjoy life’s simple pleasures.

Rich in history

In 1775, Lt. Francisco Bodega y Cuadra dropped anchor in the bay then sent word back to Mexico. As the bay area was developed, they established warehouses along the shore, called bodegas. No one knows for sure which bodega gave the bay its name.

Bodega Bay was established as a port by the Russian settlers who came here seeking a mild climate to raise food crops for their Alaskan settlements. The protected port quickly became the import and export center for the Sonoma Coast, and established itself as a fishing village with a complete array of delectable sea fare. People now come from all over to enjoy crab and salmon fresh from the sea and to explore the variety of shops that line Coast Highway 1.
